Book Review: "Grow Young with Your Dog"

Happy Fit Dog Friday! Today I have a book review for you! Now I know it seems a bit odd that I would do a book review on a day dedicated to talking about exercise but this book is all about exercises you can do with your dog to help you both move better and feel younger! I was pretty excited when the opportunity came up to review this book. As you all know my dogs are very active and when we go to the off leash park they run really hard. I want to be able to keep them as young as possible for as long as possible and keep them doing the things they love to do. This book is an amazing read and I'm so happy to share it with everyone! I received the book in exchange for an honest review but I am not being monetarily compensated for sharing it.

Grow Young With Your Dog by Mary Debono
Mary Debono describes how she has helped dogs heal completely from injuries and surgeries, move well despite arthritis and hip dysplasia, recover from a paralyzing stroke and run and play again after being classified as “too old to recover.”

Using exercises in this book with your dog, you can learn how to:

The book is absolutely wonderful. I really enjoyed Mary's stories about her clients and their dogs and I really appreciated that she included links to video instruction on her website. The audio that she provided was very soothing and helpful. The pictures of her technique are very thorough and she goes into great detail on how you can do this for your own dogs. I am also very happy with the instruction for the human exercises as well. Since I started doing the exercises my back has been feeling so much better.

Mary also advocates for positive reinforcement training, which makes me very happy.

After reading the book, watching the video instruction and listening to the audio I was able to use Mary's technique on both of my dogs. I can tell you that it has worked wonders for Phoenix specifically, although Zoe enjoys the exercises, too. Phoenix is the more active of the two and she usually has sore shoulders (with heat in them). After three Debono Moves sessions her shoulders are no longer hot and I can tell she feels better. Both dogs also seem a lot less stiff after long hiking trips!

I would definitely recommend checking the book and Mary's website out!

  3. We totally agree, dog/human combinations keep both species young. Especially if you establish a routine, everyone is used to exercising and no one can back out. Sounds like a real good book.

  4. This is perfect for Haley right now. She's starting to slow down a little and I have to be more careful to make sure sure doesn't overdo it when playing or hiking. I'm definitely going to check this out! Thanks for sharing it today.
