Hi everyone! I hope you are all having an amazing day. Today I have a review for you on the new Sparkle Shampoo Bar from The Honest Kitchen. We received the "Diatomaceous Earth, Calendula, Comfrey & Aloe" Sparkle Bar but they have two other options. We were given our Sparkle Bar in exchange for an honest review but we were not monetarily compensated.
Note: I am a groomer with extensive knowledge on grooming products. I am extremely picky when it comes to choosing products for my furkids so rest assured I would not review a product if I didn't trust the brand.
I was really excited when I was contacted by THK about this review. They make amazing food and treats and my girls have been suffering from some skin issues from a previous shampoo fail so it's nice to be able to try something from a brand that I trust. I had never tried bar (or solid) shampoo before so I was a little nervous about how it would go and wondered if the shampoo bar would lather like other shampoos and if it would work as well.

Since we were experiencing skin problems, I decided to go with the "Diatomaceous Earth, Calendula, Comfrey & Aloe" Sparkle Bar. This shampoo bar is a special recipe for pups with skin irritation, hot spots and itching. The calming combination of silica-rich diatomaceous earth, healing calendula and anti-fungal comfrey really helps to soothe and settle troubled skin.
About the Sparkle Bar:
Our all natural, botanical shampoo bars are kind to your pup or kitty, and to the earth, too. They’re hand-made from a base of organic goat’s milk from a family farm in the Deep South, and blended with olive and coconut oil plus precious, functional herbs and botanicals that gently nourish the different needs of the skin and coat. Sparkle Shampoo Bars are like ‘dehydrated’ shampoo – compact, free of wasteful ‘water weight’, efficient to ship and minimal on the packaging front, too.
Ingredients: Goat’s Milk, Aloe Vera Juice, Saponified Oils of: Coconut, Organic Palm, Sunflower, Olive, Organic Palm Kernel; Castor Oil, Cocoa Butter, Jojoba, Diatomaceous Earth, Ground Calendula Petals, Ground Comfrey Leaf.
Diatomaceous Earth is supposed to kill fleas and since we have an abundance of those in Oregon I was happy to get this.

Check out the soapy action!! |
As you can see from the photos above, the shampoo definitely has a good lather. My past grooming experience has made me extremely picky about my products and this shampoo bar out performed everything I've ever tried. Which is definitely high praise! It exceeded my expectations. I got the girls good and wet and then rubbed the bar on them and after a couple of swipes they were nice and soapy. When they were dry they felt so clean and soft. The Sparkle Bar has sort of an odd fragrance. It doesn't smell terrible, it's not something you would want to keep sniffing but it didn't cling to their fur or skin. The girls had absolutely no smell at all which I'm sure they appreciated. They just smelled like clean dogs. I am really sensitive to smells, myself, and the fragrance did not give me a headache so I would say it's win win. They were not itchy after their bath and we've tried the bar twice so far. Their skin condition that they had has since cleared up after using the Sparkle Bar!
I decided that I wanted to try the shampoo bar on different hair types, so I went ahead and used it on my cats, too. Lilly has extremely thick fur and Pandora has long silky hair. The shampoo bar worked very well on them and they had no ill effects from me using it on them. Both of the cats look great but Lilly's coat looks amazing and she is SO soft.
Overall I am very happy with the Sparkle Bar. The only thing I wish I could change would be more product. I wish it was bigger. It does say that it will last up to 18 baths for a 30lbs dog but it would be nice if they offered a larger version for our friends with bigger, fluffier dogs. I would also ask for a more ergonomical design that fits in the hand better because I did end up dropping it a few times.
I would definitely get the Sparkle Bar again! I really want to try the other ones.

ReplyDeleteYeah, absolutely! The shampoo is awesome!
DeleteWe LOVED our THK shampoo bar here! (Okay, the people loved it. The dogs were all, "really? A bath?")
ReplyDeleteMy dogs felt the same way, lol!
DeleteAwesome review! As you know, we loved it too, and I want to try the other varieties. Hmm...they should do a sampler with mini-bars for the holidays!
ReplyDeleteThank you! That's an awesome idea! They should totally do that!
DeleteI have heard so much about this!!!! I love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Sounds like a great product.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED this shampoo. It was wonderful not to spill half a bottle of shampoo during bathtime!
ReplyDeleteSame here! I totally agree! I always end up spilling. LOL
DeleteGood review. I haven't tried it yet but I will check it out. The comment about sampler bars sounds good. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, Nola liked this too! Ma said she's gonna check it out..pffffft!!! I say b.a.t.h.???? WHAT??! Butts, if it makes my furs all shiny and lovely and keeps my itchies at bay..I GUESS I'll let Ma order some....
ReplyDeleteOh, and since your Moms a Groomer...I apologize for all my furcuts that MA gives me...she is DEFINITELY NOT a groomer, and it must pain your MOms to see my terrible furcuts. If you wants a margarita as remuneration, just let me know! ☺

Fabulous review! I was thrilled with the sparkle bar. I'm glad I got the plain one; everyone seems to be saying the other two have an odd smell. The plain is nearly completely scentless. I like how soft it made my hands, haha.
ReplyDeleteI received one of these too, but we haven't tried ours yet. A solid bar seems like it'll be an interesting change from the usual shampoo bottle! Great review :)
ReplyDeleteGreat Review!!!! I have to admit that we wash our dogs only when they are having pollen allergies, and our vet told us to use Palmolive dish liquid cleaner! It seems to work well but I bet your bar would work even better!!!
ReplyDeleteI want! We haven't loved any of the shampoos we've tried and I'm not sure I'd buy a bar soap without hearing how they worked first. Thanks for sharing! We love THK's other products so would trust the quality...
ReplyDeleteWe have one too...isn't the scent soooo strong? I use it as a room deodorizer ..! Happy Thoughtless Thursday, Ruckus the Eskie
ReplyDeleteThanks for this great review. I've got a bar of THK's lavender sparkle bar that I'm considering using on baby Georgie, just 10 weeks old. Do you think this shampoo bar would be okay for a pup?
