Buster Food Cube Review

Hi everyone! I hope you're all having a fantastic day! Today I have a review for you on two amazing puzzle toys, the BUSTER Food Cube and the BUSTER Soft Food Cube made by Kruuse!

My dogs absolutely love puzzle toys, Zoe is a puzzle toy addict. She thinks they all belong to her! (Which we've been working on!) Puzzle toys are one of my favorite ways to feed my dogs. Mental stimulation is so important and by giving them a puzzle to solve, it works their brain and helps to tire them out so they don't get into other mischief around the house. I love having different puzzle toys, especially around winter time because it's rainy and the girls generally don't like going out in a downpour. Puzzle toys are one of the best ways to beat doggie boredom and it gives them a task to do.

The Buster Cubes are made to be used with kibble or other similar sized treats and I will generally just fill them with the girl's daily meals and let them have them. It can take them anywhere between 15 and 30 minutes to get all the food out.

BUSTER Food Cube

The Original BUSTER Food Cube is made from durable plastic and can definitely stand up to any abuse your dog might put it through. You can easily put treats or kibble inside and the dog has to roll the cube with his or her nose to get the treats out. They come in two sizes and four different colors!

Phoenix is really concentrating hard on this task!

Zoe is in LOVE!

BUSTER Soft Food Cube

The BUSTER Soft Food Cube is also made with durable plastic but it's softer and the edges are more rounded. This one comes in two sizes and two colors. It's definitely a lot quieter than the original and it's a bit easier for the dogs to roll around. I would recommend the Soft version of this toy if your dog is timid and just starting out in puzzle toy use. My dogs had a much easier time getting the food out of it than from the Original. This would make a great starter puzzle toy and then as the dog gets really good at using it you can advance up to the Original Food Cube. The Soft Food Cube has been wonderful for Phoenix who is just learning to love puzzle toys! She's become a BUSTER Cube master and has been having so much fun using these toys! I would say she's actually better at getting the food out of the cubes than Zoe. Which is awesome!

Yum!

Phoenix is the BUSTER Cube master!
Phee is rewarded for her hard work when the cube finally releases some treats!

As some of you might know, it can be challenging to keep smart dogs busy doing activities we approve of, instead of getting into things they are not supposed to. Having puzzle toys is just one more tool in my toolbox for keeping my dogs busy, out of trouble and happy. The girls had so much fun playing with these BUSTER cubes! They are working their minds and bodies and it's so much better than just getting fed out of a bowl! As soon as they are done playing with their cubes, they lay down and take a nice long nap! I love using puzzle toys on rainy days or days where I can't get a training session in. They are so useful to have around! I would highly recommend checking them out and getting one for your dog! They also make BUSTER Cat Puzzle Toys, that are very similar to the dog ones, so you can keep your kitty busy too! How neat is that!

Have you ever tried any puzzle toys with your pets? Did they like them?

ZoePhee was provided with two Buster Food Cubes from BUSTER Kruuse in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and BUSTER is not responsible for the content of this blog post.

  1. Katie has had a food ball since she was a tiny pup and loves it. Bailie likes puzzle toys somewhat. I don't have any interest. We are all different at our house! This one is real cute I have to say.

  2. I didn't know that they made a soft Buster cube now! Since I'm a renter with hardwood floors, I wince every time a hard puzzle toy crashes into a baseboard--so now we might actually be able to try a Buster cube! And I'm glad that it's helping Phoenix learn more about the fun of puzzle toys--Nala had to learn about them, too (and I guess her education is still continuing!).

  3. WE LOVE PUZZLES. We have the Buster Cube, and lots more. I do like the pink better than the yellow tho!

  5. Oh I bet that's a lot of fun! What do you fill it up with?

    1. I fill it with either kibble or other kibble size treats that are softer.

  7. My dogs love puzzle toys! I'll have to consider this one for them!

  8. Very interesting! How does it work with more than 1 dog? Since we have five here, we'd have to make sure that one dog doesn't get the other dog's share.

    1. I usually feed them their individual portion and in separate areas. So Zoe will have the Original cube in her area and Phoenix will have the Soft cube in her area and I just keep an eye on them to make sure they don't end up switching or bothering each other. With 5 it might be a little more complicated but I think it would be doable if you have enough space! :D

  9. These are great, I love interactive toys that stimulate my dogs mentally! I think Phoenix had more fun playing with the cube than eating the actual treats - great video!

  10. We used to use Buster Cubes with my two previous dogs. Rosie would bat it around and it would bang off the walls and furniture. Pasha hated the noise so he would gently nose it and paw it until he got a treat. He would have loved the soft version.

  12. Jon Farleigh came running when he heard that cube rolling around in the video (of course, he has no idea what it is; he's never used one before). I've never given the boys a food toy (I need to). They're destructo-dogs, though, so I'd be leery of the soft one. I'll have to keep my eyes open for this in the local pet store!

    1. Oh that's so cute! Tell Jon Farleigh hi from us! :D The soft toy seems pretty durable but I probably wouldn't leave them unattended with it if they are good at destroying stuff.

  13. Oh Nola would just love this! Love the pink. I knew about the original one, but not the soft one. I'll have to get one of each. Thanks for the great review!

  14. This review is great! Makes me want to run out and buy Sparkle a cube! I have bought her other puzzle toys but none exactly like this one. She learns really quickly so it would be interesting to watch her with it. Since she is small, I'd probably want to have her use the soft one ... will have to look for these next time we are out doggie prize shopping!

    1. I bet Sparkle would really like it! The girls really do! They make smaller ones, too if she's little, I'd probably try a small one! :D Let us know if you get one and how she does with it!

  15. Great review! We've used the hard Buster puzzle toy, and our dogs loved it. However, we did not. We have hardwood and tile floors throughout the house and the darn thing was so loud that we finally got rid of it. I'm glad to hear about the soft one. Maybe we'll try that!

  18. Mr. N loves puzzle toys. I definitely have a preference for the softer ones because otherwise they go bumping into furniture and walls and making a ton of noise!
