Zoe Makes A New Friend!
We were out at Thousand Acres the other day when we happened across this young shepherd, unfortunately, I didn't get his name! Zoe really enjoyed playing with him! It's very unusual for my dogs to make friends with shepherds. Traditionally, they have not really liked any of the ones we've met. For some reason they are both really wary of dogs with ears that are all the way up and Zoe's had some bad experiences with them and usually Phoenix will screech in fear at a shepherd.
It definitely surprised me that both of my dogs were happily playing with this guy. He was a young intact male and they had a blast running around with him. I hope we get to see him again some time! My dogs need shepherd lessons that not all of them are going to be aggressive with them.
Does your dog have a breed they don't like?
What a great new friend. We have certain breeds we generally don't like at all, but once and a while they will be a friend of ours too. Must be the waggy tail or something that attracts us.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right about the waggy tail! Loose, happy wagging is something Zoe loves!
DeleteWell, that's a good sign that they enjoyed playing with this guy! Oz has some kind of hatred for the black standard poodle in our neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteI have read that a lot of dogs don't like darker colored dogs because their body language is harder to read! Maybe that's it!
DeleteHi Y'all!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful playmate!
Y'all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
HA! Never judge a shepherd by his ears! - LOL Great photos. Looks like spontaneity at its best. I like to see dogs interact together.
ReplyDeleteLOL! So true! Now only if we could explain that to the girls! :D
DeleteSuch a fun pal!
ReplyDeleteMy dogs love all breeds up and including ponies
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome! I am slightly jealous! :D
DeleteSo fun making new friends!
ReplyDeleteMr. N judges dogs more by their playing style more than anything! He has odd taste in playmates.
ReplyDeleteZoe does, too.. Most of the time.
DeleteAww he looks like a big version of Ghost!
ReplyDeleteAlso LOL at Zoe's butt fur sticking up. :P Glad the girls had fun!
I was thinking that, too! :D Yeah, Zoe gets a butt mohawk when she's super excited! :D
DeleteUnfortunately my dogs don't get exposed to enough breeds to have one they don't like. Hailey always had a thing for Shepherds thought! She loved them!
ReplyDeleteAwe! That's so sweet! Good girl Hailey!
DeleteDear Zoe,
ReplyDeleteShepherds can be intense, can't they? I like all dogs, except for those that try to jump on my head or behave rudely. Then I tell them to Stop.
Ojo is scared of any intense Dog.
So we do not have breed types, more like personality types that we do not like!
Licks,
Cobi
Pee Ess My ears are all the way up, but I would be very calm with you if I ever met you! Maybe that would be a good ear-up-dog experience?
Shepherds are definitely intense! We totally agree! The girls don't like rude pups, either! We would love to meet you sometime Cobi! I'm sure since you are so calm that it would be fine!
DeleteLooks like they have a new friend.
ReplyDeleteThey look like they're having a blast! Nola hates golden retrievers (or any large, yellow/tan shaggy dogs), and doesn't like chihuahuas. Isn't a big fan of hounds, either. She loves terriers, border collies and aussies, and shepherds!
ReplyDeleteThat's fascinating! Phoenix doesn't really like Goldens, either! LOL
DeleteLooks like they had a great time! I've had fun with dogs that I just meet on a one time basis no matter what breed. For me it depends on their behavior, but right now there is a Basset Hound I meet on our walks that I just do not like and mom can't figure it out because she's very sweet! Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome Dolly! Maybe the basset smells funny or something? :D
DeleteThat's great that they had fun! The funny thing is, Rita also hates shepherds - even though she is one. But we got charged at by an off-leash one (and I got knocked into some trash cans and scratched up) so now she really hates all shepherds. And another time we got charged at (and I got scratched up!) by a red-coated cattle dog, so now she hates red cattle dogs!
ReplyDeleteOh poor Rita! Being charged can definitely be scary! Phoenix will screech in a very high pitched voice if dogs charge her, she's learned that screeching makes them stop. Zoe had a bad experience with a cattle dog, too one time! She is still not that fond of them after that.
DeleteSounds like he was a real sweetie. Good to learn that not all shepherds are the same.
ReplyDeleteYep! I totally agree. Now if we could just explain that to Phoenix. LOL
DeleteIt looks like the had a blast! Here's to hoping this helps a little with their shepherd phobia!
ReplyDeleteI really hope so! Fingers crossed!
DeleteGreat fun when our dogs make friends and can enjoy play time together. My hound dog likes all dog breeds, as long as they like to run and jump and play. He doesn't much care for aggression and will generally walk away if a dog is snarling or growling. But, he doesn't mind rough-housing with them, as long as it's friendly.
ReplyDeleteThat's so awesome that he is so even tempered and that he likes other dogs so much! Zoe used to be like that and I miss it!
DeleteNeeko dislikes medium to large dogs with curly/wavy hair. Like goldendoodles. It's strange.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Zoe had a good time with a new friend!
Isn't it so nice when they surprise us?
ReplyDeleteMy dogs HATE bulldogs. They have been attacked three separate times by the three bulldogs across the street, so I totally get it. But my daughter has a bulldog. Which makes it hard. Even as a puppy they couldn't tolerate Beau. :-(
