Taking it Easy on Fit Dog Friday
Prior to Phoenix hurting her leg we had been going between 4.5 - 6 miles "free running" a day. Free running basically means they run loose while I meander and take pictures of them. They do a lot of running around, mixed in with stopping to eat grass, zoomies and trotting. After Phee hurt her leg, I rested her for a few days and we just went on potty walks. Now that she seems all better I decided it was time to get her back out to the park but I didn't want to push it too much. We did two days of around 3 miles then took a day off due to the rain. When the rain stopped we went out and did a 4.5 mile loop.
So far, Phoenix seems totally fine. She's back to normal and bouncing around as usual. We will probably take the weekend off again and do some indoor games because the forecast is calling for more rain.
Do you have a hard time getting back into your exercise routine after a break?
Happy Fit Dog Friday everyone!
We're doing the same thing with Haley right now. She hurt her knee and week or so ago when we had a lot of snow and ice on the ground. She's doing great so far as we're easing her back into hiking. I'm glad Phoenix is also doing great too!
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hope Haley feels better soon! That's good you're easing back into it! That's what we're doing, too.
DeleteGlad she is feeling better. We don't do breaks, so no having to get back into it. Sometimes in the winter with below zero temps and/or ice, Mom stops running for a couple weeks, but then we walk more and she can't wait to get back to running. Otherwise we walk 365 days a year 1-3 hours a day total depending on time available. Even in her walking cast two years ago she kept walking and got in trouble because the cast wore out after two weeks! We aren't good at taking a break around here. Hope your rain lets up soon, it makes such a mess.
ReplyDeleteI don't normally do breaks either but Phoenix hurt her leg and the type of exercise we do, the free running, I've seen dogs rip their acls out and do other damage to themselves. I'd rather take a day or two off than risk greater injury. :)
DeleteSo happy to hear she is feeling better and with spring on the way too!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! :D
DeleteGlad that Phoenix is feeling better and able to enjoy some nice walks again. One one hand, I have trouble getting back into a routine after a break--after we broke our streak, it felt a lot easier for me to consider taking a day off on non-terrible weather days, but on the other hand, Barley gets such cabin fever after a day or so of a break that the only thing that keeps my sanity is getting back outside!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Me too! I hate it when there's something wrong with the girls. Getting back into the routine is SO hard. We only have one car right now so if I want to get to the park I like to go to, I have to get up super early to take my husband to work. It's been so nice out, though it's been worth it.
DeleteAfter the whole kennel cough issue, both dogs lost their cardio! Now it's much easier to wear them out. I'm sure they'll start to catch back up. I'll have to enjoy this while I can! :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL!! That's too funny! I'm glad they're feeling better!
DeleteIf we have to take a break (if Mr. N was sick or whatever), we still go out. I carry him and he puts on his pathetic face and accepts adoration and petting from strangers.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the rest is helping her leg. I have a shoulder I tend to re-injure once in awhile that we have to rest, but we pretty much keep to a schedule! Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteHi Y'all!
ReplyDeleteGlad Phoenix is feeling better! That's wonderful news!
Y'all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
We only run 6 miles 1 day a week cuz we have to run with our pawrents wearing a "SPI LEASH" so we don't get to go every time.'
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
I am glad Phoenix is better. Bummer on the rain. We are hoping to do some training tomorrow and hopefully it will be dry.
ReplyDeleteGlad she's feeling better! I don't really take breaks, with myself or the dogs, haha. We're too high energy! I can't sit still and get really anxious if I can't exercise, and it's the same with the dogs.
ReplyDeleteSo glad Phoenix is doing better! It's just no fun when you can't get out and play!
