A Good Romp on the Beach - Fit Dog Friday

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a fabulous Friday!

So Zoe's vet visit was yesterday (click here to read more about that) and we found out that she is 32lbs. It didn't surprise me at all. I knew she had gained some weight over the time we were in California. There really isn't a whole lot of places to take them for exercise when you live in the middle of nowhere and your dog will take off after a deer. (We were working on recalls off large prey animals when we moved away) Leash walks have never been very good exercise for my dogs. I don't walk quickly enough for them and running is not an option.

Ideally, Zoe should be 30lbs or under, however, she is still considered in the ideal range on the body scale (see the image below). I prefer my dogs to be on the leaner side so I am happy that we've moved back to Oregon and have access to different activities. It's really important to me that my dogs stay healthy and fit.

Btw, that is her new Paracord Collar from 4 Paws Only Novelties
I will have a full review up on it by next week.

One of my favorite ways to exercise my dogs is to take them to the beach. We are very lucky here that most of our beaches are dog friendly and off leash. We live about an hour and a half from the beach now and it's a pretty easy day trip for us. The girls absolutely love going. I usually let them run free, we practice some training stuff and do parkour on the rocks and they get to chase the sea birds to their hearts content. We all enjoy it so much.

Here are some of my favorite photos from our recent beach trip.

Do you have a favorite place you take your dogs?

  1. Such a beautiful beach you have! I love playing on the beach with my dogs. It's not too likely to run into any wildlife (other than sea birds) for chasing/running off.

  3. Glad Zoe is OK! I love the Coast too. We're thinking of taking a trip down there for the dogs' birthdays.

  4. Glad you are being so conscientious about her weight...those pounds creep on quickly. She still looks good. More runs on the beach will do it!

  5. That's my favorite way to exercise mine, too. Both of mine fit into ideal, and I keep them on the leaner side. Nola was on the bulkier side of ideal a couple months ago and people were like "she looks good with some weight!". No, no she doesn't.

  7. How fun! We loved to race on the beach when we lived on the North Sea Coast in Germany. Now we have to be on leash, but we get plenty of different kinds of fun exercise. Thanks for staying fit!
