Zoe Stole All The Sticks!
Yesterday I told you about how Phoenix suddenly decided she can swim! I am super excited about that and can't wait for the weather to warm up so we can do more of this. What I didn't tell you about was nearly every time Phoenix retrieved a stick, Zoe stole them.
You can totally tell that Phee was not impressed with it!
Mean Zoe!!
Poor Phoenix! Maybe next time I will take her for a solo swim trip. :D Zoe still won't swim and I'm not sure she ever will. Luckily she has Phoenix to help her out with the stick fetching.
Do your dogs swim? Do you have any tips for me to get Zoe swimming? She's kind of a diva.

Mr. N steals all of Sage's sticks. If she really wants to keep one, she'll go out further into the water to guard it.
ReplyDeleteMr. N can swim and he's pretty good at it but he prefers not to. And I don't blame him. I took him out to 1000 Acres last summer and it was 85 degrees and he still came out shivering from the water. Little dog has no body fat.
I had a phase where I was into sticks, but it is a long time ago. These days, Bailie is into sticks, parading them around, taunting me with them. Sometimes I pick one up just to play with her mind, when she goes to steal it, I let her have it. Not worth fighting over.
ReplyDeleteI've tried throwing treats into the deeper part of the lake for B - but she'll have none of it. A couple of times she has forgotten about her aversion to water above her knees and then realized what was happening and flipped out. I try not to make an issue of it. She's almost 9 now, so she probably isn't going to develop a taste for it at this point.
ReplyDeleteWho knows, maybe Zoe will learn to love it as she sees Phoenix having such fun!
she's pretty smart! let someone else do the work and collect the spoils at the shore. :)
ReplyDeleteDante loves to swim! Ziva not so much, but she'll do anything for her tennis ball so in the summer i'm a mean mommy and have her get her exercise in the water by throwing the ball in deep enough that she has to swim to go get it. Sometimes though she will willingly do zoomies with Dante and end up splashing around in the water.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I think Nola and Zoe would get along in regards to the thievery. :p
ReplyDeleteI don't really have any tips. Nola learned to swim by following me out when I'd walk in water (she's 10" tall so that didn't take much, haha). Pike won't swim no matter what I do.
Cute pics! Rita is the first dog we've had that can swim - but she doesn't like to. Our beagle could, but flat out refused and so did Abby. I never saw Abby swim once. Rita will only do it if the water is really shallow and I walk out there, then she'll swim out to me. It's so adorable! I wish she liked it!
ReplyDeleteVery cute. It looks like the girls were having a blast! I'm glad Phee has learned to love to swim!
ReplyDeleteWe had one Lab who never really wanted to swim. He'd wade and steal sticks just like Zoe, but he very rarely fully swam. So, Zoe might never really want to either... But, a swimming trip all by herself might work, if she's learned that fetching sticks out of the water is a fun behavior from her games with Phee. Shyla didn't swim at first (she was the stick stealer), but on her first swimming outing all by herself, she overcame her fear of swimming and the rest is history!
Sorry for my absence. I was away from all internet for a while.
Thank you! I'm hoping that she continues to like it! Awe, that's so awesome about Shyla! Oh and no worries about the absence! Your trip to the desert sounds amazing! I can't wait to see more of it! :D
DeleteLooks like they had a blast!
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun! Shasta can swim but prefers not to unless it's necessary to stay cool!
ReplyDeleteCole won't swim but he stands at the edge of water and yells at any dog who enjoys swimming when they try to get out. He would totally snatch a stick from them, and then fuss at them for getting totally wet. After all, when you get poodle hair totally wet it fro's up. Leeanna at not afraid of color
ReplyDeleteLooks like they are having a blast! Now you just need to get some bumpers or floating toys. Sticks can be a bit dangerous. Just make sure the dogs will bring back the bumpers or you will be swimming too...lol.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! I definitely want to get some sort of floating water toys. We are super careful with the sticks, for sure! I've seen some really horrific injuries due to sticks. :)
