Not A Retriever!

Even though I've taught both of my dogs how to retrieve stuff, sometimes because they have minds of their own, they don't always follow through. Recently Phoenix has been running off with her sticks instead of bringing them back! I think it's probably because other dogs keep trying to steal them from her. It's not a big deal and there will always be more sticks! It's pretty funny though!

Here is a video I posted on instagram of Phoenix running off with her stick!

Happy Monday Mischief everyone!

  1. Love the shot of you in the water with the big stick. I don't fetch or return things, no interest. Bailie enjoys fetching things, but she refuses to return them. No matter, Mom just keeps finding things to throw and Bailie will drop one and pick up the next and keep running.

  2. Hahahaha! I love how she just took off with it! Sherman and Leroy aren't much for retrieving either.

  4. I've always said, there's something really special about a dog and a stick. Harley's been playing with one for two years! #crazy

  5. Haha, she really did run off with that stick! I think you're right, she probably wants some time to enjoy the stick all by herself. Cute video!

  7. Delilah will retrieve in water for a very long time, she just loves to swim. But ask her to do it on land or in the house and she is selective. In fact both of my dogs are selective retrievers. :-) They might do it a couple of times in the house, but then when they are done, they just look at what you've thrown and then look back at you as if to say, "You want it? Go and get it." LOL

  8. Hahaha! Ziva will always bring her ball back, Dante though gets bored so he'll quit when he's done playing fetch. :-)

  9. Very cute!!! Even the most rabid retrievers (like our Labs) will eventually decide not to bring the stick back when they need a rest. They go lie with it off to the side until they're ready to play again!

  10. Well Honey IS a retriever and she'd never run into the water to get a stick for us. Sounds like Phoenix is doing half a retriever impersonation. :)

  11. "I'm outta here!" So cute! Rita is not much for fetch either; three or four throws and she's done! She'll go lay down with it and it's game over.

  13. Aww, beautiful, playful dogs. I miss playing. Our dog, Jake, is too old and achy to play, and I lost my German Shepherd, Star to bone cancer. My cat ... well, she's a cat. ;) And my Bearded Dragon, Shirley, just want to sit there, although she sometimes runs away from me when we're outside. Little stinker. Thanks for sharing. Fun!
