Phoenix's Solo Adventure!

Since Zoe hurt her paw at the park last week, we've been resting her. She seems fine now but I'm not taking any chances and I'm continuing the rest for a few more days. Thanks to everyone who have asked about her!

I spent quite a lot of time this past summer working on separation training with my two dogs so Zoe is happy to stay home and nap while I take Phoenix out. Phoenix is medium to high energy and she really needs an outlet for it. This week we've gone on a few solo adventures and it was so fun to spend some one on one time with her.

One of Phoenix's favorite things to do is play on kid playgrounds. She loves sliding down the slide! So this was a huge reward for her after walking so nicely on a loose leash (at least one of my dogs can!).

After the slide, Phoenix found these little cut outs and she jumped through both of them without being cued. She did it completely on her own! I had to take a video, so the video is set up so you can see.

Phoenix and I had a great time on our adventures and Zoe was fine staying home. I highly recommend spending one on one time with each of your dogs if you have a multi-dog household. It's very eye opening. Phoenix is perfect on leash without her sister influencing her. She didn't care about any of the critters running around and she was really good. It's really fascinating how two dogs walking together can egg each other on and cause problems. I love having a multiple dogs, don't get me wrong but it's nice to get out with just one sometimes!

Happy Fit Dog Friday everyone!

  1. We all behave a bit differently when we are alone with Mom. We get alone time as well, and it is a lot of fun. Having only one dog is also so much easier for the human.

  2. I try to spend some one-on-one time with each of my dogs too - I think it's good for them and for me too!

  3. We always take the collies out for one on one time, they really value having our undivided attention.

  4. I'm glad Zoe is doing better. Sounds like a soft tissue injury. Wise to let her rest some more.

Way cool on just being with Phoenix. I do understand about one versus two. Yes I do.

Have a woof woof day you two. My best to your wonderful mom. ☺

  5. Aw, I bet Phoenix really loved that one-on-one time with you too. The playground videos are awesome! Haley really loves kid's playgrounds too so we're always hoping they are empty so we can have some fun, lol!

  6. I totally get it!
It's really nice to just take some one on one time, I find i'm more relaxed when I don't have to manage two silly dogs misbehaving. We've been doing separate walks recently because i've discovered that Ziva is less stimulated when Dante isn't with us and she walks much better for me. It also gives me time to work on her fear reactivity issues that started cropping back up after our last batch of fosters.
Someday - in a VERY long time... i'll have just one dog I think. :-)

  7. That was one of the hardest things with fostering. Mr. n loves being the only dog for that reason!

  8. I agree with you completely!! When Sampson and Delilah are together, it is a competition. They both pull as hard as they can trying to get in front of the other. Sometimes taking Sampson off-leash helps with Delilah's pulling.

I'm glad Zoe is feeling better.
Now that Sampson is injured, Delilah and I are walking alone and she's really a joy to walk. Rarely any pulling at all, most times totally loose leash and listens to everything I say. I need to do this more! Glad

  10. I'm glad that Miss Zoe is feeling better and that you've gotten some good one-on-one time with Phoenix as well! I loved seeing the video on Instagram the other day!

  11. I love spending alone time (called Mommy and Me time) with my dogs. Tonight, I'll be heading to pick up raw and if there's time, I'm going to stop at the house to grab Rodrigo so that he can go with me. A walk, a trip to the pet store, or a drive around Marysville - the dogs love it.

  12. Hi hi hi! Ojo here! I love one-on-one time with my person. I don't get it as often as I should! Cobi is usually there being slow, or getting the way, or trying to herd me. I will ask for some one-on-one time right now! Phoenix, you are very lucky! (And we hope Zoe is fully healed soon!)

  13. Blueberry is glad she doesn't have to share me. ;). Glad Zoe is doing better, but I would do the same and give it a couple more days. Phoenix must have loved the one on one time! I almost got B to go down a slide, but leashes are required and I didn't really feel comfortable with that. She's also a fan of playground equipment. One time she sat on that whirlybird thing and I gently spun it around. She also loves bleachers.

  14. I so agree! Even though I have a very specific mix of needs and energy levels, I still enjoy spending one on one time with them. It's definitely eye opening!

  15. I have to work on that too. They both want to go at the same time but my two sure do egg one another on during walks.

  16. I hope Zoe gets better soon! <3 Love Phoenix's solo adventure! :) Especially the slide! So brave and she knows how to have fun! :D

  17. That's so wonderful to see!!! Shyla is starting to like kid's playground equipment but she needs a lesson from Phoenix!

It's the opposite for me. I usually take only Shyla on my bike rides. Occasionally, I have both pups with me, and it is so interesting to see how 1 + 1 does not equal 2 because I'm not Shyla's only companion. The two of them have their own little games going on, which can really make it harder to keep them under control!

I'm glad to hear that Zoe is feeling better!

  18. I only walk the dogs individually, because three is too much for me at once, and I don't want to leave one at home alone. But it's funny, I often wonder if they would walk better together....you might have given me my answer! I think they each enjoy the one on one time, and I enjoy it too.
