New Trails & Happy Dogs

When you live with a dog who is afraid of other dogs and you live in the city where dogs are around every corner, finding dog-free ways to exercise is important. The dog park is out for the most part and we can only go to Thousand Acres during off times. I know I've talked about this before but leash walks have never really been enough for either of my dogs. It's fine when it's raining but being able to run is way more fulfilling.

I was pretty excited when I found a different set of trails that were deserted. The dogs were able to run and play and we didn't come across anyone or any dogs. It was a bit of a rougher hike for us as the trails were not as groomed but I'll take it.

This part of the trail heads into Thousand Acres and we didn't want to go that way. The dogs are recalling off a squirrel. First squirrel I've actually ever seen out there. I've seen lots of birds, bald eagles even, some bunnies and deer but never any squirrels until that day.

We had two super nice days hiking these trails and we didn't run into anyone. It was really awesome.

Do you ever try to find secret trails or deserted parks for your dogs?

  1. Looks like a fun romp. Long walks are good for us, but we also need to burn off a bit more energy playing chase and stuff in our own fenced yard.

  2. They both need to work and that needs to be done every single day. You're most wise for finding them a place where they can do that without interference.

Have a fabulous day. Scritches to the girls. ☺

  3. This is exactly why we hike instead of walking in the neighborhood at least a couple of days a week! It's so good for all of us to be able to just relax and enjoy ourselves, instead of being on constant high-alert for the ever-present, oh-so-terrible CARS.

  5. Looks fun! And yes we have a secret dog park that is almost always deserted that we occasionally visit in the summer. :-) It is barely ever used from what I can tell, and if their is anyone already there we don't go in.

  6. That looks so fun! I love the beach we usually go to because it's nearly always deserted, even in summer. The girls look very sighthound-y here!

  8. Dear Zoe and Phoenix,

You do indeed look very, very happy! And very beautiful too!

We are not much for on-leash Walks either. Especially not Ojo. She needs to RUN every day (plus also have mental stimulation like sniffing and solving puzzles) or else she goes crazy. I am not as demanding as she is, but it is still very important to my person that I get to be offleash and explore like a Dog every day! Off leash is so important! (Which is why recalls off squirrels are so important, so that you can get to go offleash!)

We are glad that your person found a new, fun place to explore! Happy running!

    Cobi

  9. That's so great, I can never find trails that are deserted! Certainly not empty enough to let me dogs run off leash. These are great action shots, I'm glad the girls had such a great time, I can see the joy in their faces!
