An Awesome Raincoat: Hurtta Torrent Coat

Ah, the Pacific Northwest. So green, so pretty, so RAINY! With an average of around 155 days of rain each year, water and mud is something we deal with a lot. Zoe and Phoenix both tend to be pretty finicky about bad weather and I honestly don't blame them. The girls don't enjoy being wet and honestly, who really likes that wet dog smell, anyways? It rains all winter long and a lot in Spring and Fall. We also happen to live in the Colombia River Gorge so we often deal with freezing wind, too. My dogs don't like the rain, Zoe specifically hates the wind and it's important for them to have quality coats that protect them from the elements.

With Spring on the way and the weather warming up a little, I noticed that the dogs were starting to get too warm running around in their winter coats. So I decided that they needed new raincoats. My dogs have a passion for fashion and our old "off the rack" rubber duck rain coats were just not cutting it, plus they were yellow and ugly. I wanted light, breathable fabric that would also be able to protect them from rain and wind without making them too hot.

The Hurtta Torrent Coat is the answer to everything I was looking for in a Spring/Fall raincoat. This coat was designed for demanding conditions and to protect a dog from the rain and wind while also being lightweight and breathable.

The Torrent Coat has similar features as both the Summit Parka and the Ultimate Warmer, minus the warm fleece lining. It's like those two coats had a baby and it came out as the Torrent! The Torrent Coat has the awesome over the back buckle and neck covering that I loved from the Summit Parka and it has the nice front and back end covering from the Ultimate Warmer. The Torrent Coat covers their entire chest area, which is nice for those times when they are running around in tall grass or blackberry bushes. Phoenix doesn't have much hair covering her chest/belly so it's great to have that area protected.

The Torrent Coat allows for complete freedom of motion and it did not cause any rub marks anywhere on my dogs. They were both completely comfortable wearing them. Like the Ultimate Warmer, this coat buttons under the tail for extra protection from the rain and wind. You just need to leave it unbuttoned until the dog has gone potty. The coat also features a button opening across the back so that you can easily access your dog's harness and 3M reflectors so your dog will be visible and safe if you want to go for walks in the dark.

The girls and I really like the Torrent Coat! I think it's an awesome rain coat! The Torrent Coat would be a fabulous winter coat for all of those long haired dogs who get too warm running around in other heavier coats but who need to stay dry. It's an awesome Spring/Fall coat for my dogs with short hair so they can stay dry but not overheat on those days where it's warmer but still raining. I love how light but durable the fabric is and how the dogs were able to run around in the blackberries without it tearing.

The Torrent Coat comes in either Cherry (hot pink) or Raven (black) and is available in Hurtta's full range of sizes. I would definitely recommend checking it out!

You can find retailers in North America by going here: Hurtta247 Stockists.

I would also highly recommend checking Hurtta out on Facebook and liking their page. They often look for product testers and run their own giveaways. The best way of finding out all the Hurtta news is by liking their page.

ZoePhee received two Torrent Coats in exchange for an honest review. We were not monetarily compensated and all opinions are my own. Hurtta is not responsible for the content of this blog post.

  1. Those coats are beautiful! If we wore coats, we would have those in a heartbeat!

  2. Glad you found something that helps the girls get out and enjoy the great outdoors no matter the weather! Barley hates clothes even more than she hates getting wet, so I will never get such cute pictures of her!

    1. Thanks! It's nice that the girls don't mind wearing clothes. The definitely hate getting wet more than wearing their jackets. Usually they will both stick their heads through the holes to "get dressed". It's pretty cute!

I'm sorry that Barley doesn't like wearing things!

  3. We're heading into summer here. I do know what it's like to live in the pacific northwest. I was born and raised in Tillamook Oregon. The average rainfall each year was 90+ inches.

Love the color of that raincoat. Your girls are always dressed so very well.

Have a woof woof day you two. My best to your mom. ☺

  5. I just love that pink on them! I think I'm going to get Nola a Hurtta coat for when we travel this fall/winter. Her Florida wardrobe only has one "cold weather" coat, so off to reread your other reviews!

    1. They really are! The chest covering is one of my favorite features, too! Especially since Phee doesn't have much hair there! She just freezes when she's wet.

  7. The Torrent Coat sounds great! I used to live in the PNW - now in sunny California. My dog would absolutely hate living anywhere else because he hates the rain. He acts like the world is ending whenever it (rarely) rains here.

    1. It sounds like your dog is a lot like the girls! They hate the rain, too! It's hard because they act like I'm abusing them if I force them out without their rain gear!

  8. Penny needs a rain coat. This one looks amazing!

  9. There were a few times when we considered getting a rain coat for our guys. JD would probably appreciate it. Cookie doesn't mind rain and hates having anything on that's not a collar or a harness. So for us it's a "shower and a walk" when it rains.

  10. The girls look lovely in their coats! I wish the Torrent coats came in more colors. They do look great regardless. It's been raining here for almost a week straight now. Crazyness. Fen actually likes the rain (little weirdo) but Kit hates it. Luckily we do already have a rain coat for Kit that helps somewhat.

    1. I definitely agree with you about Hurrta needing more colors. I think that's everyone's number one complaint and I do believe the brand is working diligently on it!

  17. I really like the bright colors! It makes them easy to see if they accidentally slip the leash, or just as an alert to passing cars.

    1. I definitely agree with you! They are so bright that they would be visible. They also feature reflectors so they are bright at night, too!

  18. I love the rain coat! Miss Molly would really enjoy one as she hates getting wet and she gets colder than the rest on my hairy pack.

  19. What a beautiful color and coat! We could have used three of those since it's been raining for a week! lol

  21. The Torrent Coat looks awesome for our wet PNW weather. I'm always on the look out for coats that keep the boys dry. LOVE the colors too.

  22. The coats look stunning and sound very practical. Love the colour on them - so stylish and easy to spot. Kilo the Pug hates getting wet so I'll have to see if there is one his size- he is not a big fan of coats but these look comfy.

    1. That's the one thing I love about the Torrent Coat, it's super comfortable and it's light weight so even if a dog doesn't like wearing heavy clothes they might not mind this one as much! Plus it keeps them dry and that in itself is helpful for their comfort! :D

  23. Piper is my first dog that has ever needed a coat. I have two labs who could not care less about snow or rain but Piper, a pit mix, has virtually no fur so she has both a pink winter coat and a pink raincoat :-) These Torrent Coats look awesome! I love the full chest coverage and it looks like even their bellies are pretty well covered.

    1. Awe, we totally understand how Piper feels! Phoenix doesn't have much fur either!

  24. We got the Torrent coats too. Now that Gretel has to walk almost every day, rain or shine, I think this jacket is going to come in real handy. Now I we just need some rain so I can test it out :)

  25. What a great idea to have a raincoat for dogs who need to go outside in nasty weather. We love the color.

  26. It is a really pretty color and she looks quite happy! This might sound weird, but do they make one with a hood? I think my dogs hate getting their heads wet most of all.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I don't believe Hurtta has a coat with a hood, the closest thing to it would probably be the Ultimate Warmer. The UW coat has a high neck that my dogs are able to tuck their ears into.

  27. Beautiful pics! What a great coat, and so pretty, too. Even though I have Huskies, my one has very minimum undercoat and loves the sun. We call her our tropical Husky (she apparently didn't get the whole Snowdog memo)! She also hates rain and getting wet. This would be perfect for her! Thanks for the great review!

  31. We have several Hurtta coats and they wear so well. I always know my dog is protected. This pink color is fantastic.

  32. This raincoat sounds great! It seems like Hurtta has a lot of great outerwear for pets. Their coats always fit your girls perfectly too. I hope that they are still getting to have some fun despite the rainy weather!
