Happy Tasty Tuesday everyone! I hope you are all having a fantastic day! We are so excited to share this review and giveaway with everyone! It's also Responsible Pet Owner's Month, too! I feel that a major part of being a responsible pet owner is training your dogs and Zuke's makes that a little bit easier with their Mini Natural Training Treats! We were given a set of their Mini Naturals in exchange for an honest review but we were not monetarily compensated.
I feel that being a "Responsible Pet Owner" means proactively training and working with the dogs on the behaviors that are important to our daily life and preventing bad behaviors that I don't like. I also feel that it's important to take how the dog feels about things into consideration as well. These past few weeks we've been working a lot on counter conditioning and desensitization.
With Zoe's feet issues, I couldn't stand having her give me the "my mother is abusing me face" when I put her booties on for walks. Unfortunately, the boots are going to be a daily thing to prevent the foot infections from the wet grass. I'm hoping I can get her to a point where she doesn't look sad and abused when the booties go on. Zoe is also having problems with the apartment noises. When you live in an apartment you have to deal with neighbors and the banging really bothers her. So we are working on that, too.
Phoenix is still having dog issues and I'm not sure they will ever go away. Most of the dogs in our apartment complex are hostile and want to eat us so that hasn't helped the situation. So I am working on CC/DS to dogs and random people walking by our patio and I've also been carrying treats with me when I walk them in our complex in case we come across other dogs. I've gotten her to the point where I can leave her on the patio for short periods of time (they go out there when I vacuum) without her barking and she generally does not react on leash unless the other dog gets in her face but her overall level of excitement when dogs are near is way too high. I know that I need to work on reinforcing calm.
I do a lot of my training sessions on the fly. That means that if I don't have treats ready I either have to waste time cutting them up or I need to have commercial treats on hand. The problem with most commercial treats is that they are not very healthy and I prefer using the healthiest treats possible. Enter Zuke's! The Zuke's treats are healthy, small and only about 3 calories per treat! They make being able to do quick training sessions easy! I can just open the package, dump some into my treat bag and we are good to go. The dogs absolutely love them and consider them to be a high value treat.
Zuke’s was founded 20 years ago by Patrick Meiering and inspired by his dog Zuke. While they were having a hike together in the Colorado Mountains, Patrick noticed that Zuke was starting to get tired and he tossed him a piece of his energy bar. After seeing Zuke perk up, Patrick realized that dogs need a healthy, energy boosting treat just as much as humans do and Zuke’s was born!
Inspired by our own pets and made especially for them. Zuke’s treats are healthy, natural, and nutritious.
Based in Durango, Colorado, we’re passionate not only about pets but also about the outdoors! Those big, wide-open spaces where dogs and their people can go to feel alive. But you don’t need mountains in your backyard to stay active with your dog, you can find adventure anywhere.
