Hiking in the Gorge!

Zoe and Wahclella Falls

So my husband was off and we decided to take the girls hiking in the Colombia River Gorge! We had a great time! I apologize for the pictures not being all that amazing. I struggled with camera settings the entire day (if anyone has any suggestions for settings in full shade with hardly any sunlight PLEASE leave them below!!!) and it was FREEZING. The girls had gotten their jackets soaked earlier in the day (hence them being naked) so they were not thrilled about it being so cold. I had to capture these as quickly as possible and get them away from the waterfall.

There was a really neat cave that the girls had to check out right after the waterfall.

Since it's "Fit Dog Friday", I wanted to show off how fit the girls are.
I haven't taken any side shots in a while. :)
(You can see Zoe's side profile in the first photo)

We ended up doing a little over 5 miles on a few different trails. We stopped at Thousand Acres first and then went on to the Gorge. It was a really fun day, although, I will admit that I am WAY out of shape for sharp uphill climbs. The girls were completely fine it was just me. I definitely need to do this more often! Most of the walks we go on are flat! We ended up doing a 500ft gain on one of the trails and it was painful.

I hope you're all having a great day today! Happy Fit Dog Friday!

  2. That looks beautiful, but not sure about the caves. Caves are kind of creepy!

  3. That looks like a beautiful place to visit! We noticed that Phod is not as fit as we would like him to be (a long hard winter with not enough exercise and nothing we could do about it). He is probably just borderline for being overweight, so we are taking some simple steps to help him get back to the perfect weight. While he doesn't like getting less food, he loves the extra fetch time!

    1. That happened to Zoe a while back, too! With extra exercise she's getting back to normal, though! :)

  11. Wow! Look at all that green! I can't wait to start seeing that color in our world again :) I am feeling your pain on the inclines--our winter walks have been mostly flat and we went to one of our favorite parks last week and had some stairs to deal with and I dying!

  12. The pictures are great. I struggle with no light just as much as bright light. Just be glad you don't have brown dawgs. lol

  13. Caves give me the worst creeps, LOL! The girls look great! Phoenix especially is pretty damn ripped.
I have the D3300, and since it has really low noise, I just set the ISO higher if I'm shooting the dogs. I'll reduce the shutter speed if it's nothing something twitchy like the dogs (I can reduce with Nola, but the others? Haha!), but for them I just up the ISO.

  14. It does look gorgeous and your girls look super fit. What a fun day for all of you!

The light is what makes or breaks a photo in my opinion. Full shade is tough to deal with. You can up the ISO just to make sure that you can use a decent shutter speed and aperture but, in my experience, you'll still get duller photos than in a sunnier place.
