Switching It Up

We haven't really done a whole lot of anything this week. I've come down with some sort of weird head cold/allergy situation and haven't been feeling my best. Mostly, the girls and I have been resting or visiting the dog park in our apartment complex. On Friday we have a fun hike with one of my friends scheduled and a picnic lunch. Then next week is our big event of the year, Doggie Dash. So I'm hoping that I'm feeling better by then!

The one thing I did get accomplished was some photos for a couple of reviews and just some general fun photos and I decided to switch it up a bit. Previously, I had been using my kitchen for photos. The lighting in there is pretty good but the flooring is ugly and dark. It was always a huge pain to set it up because I would have to move absolutely everything and hang blankets up to cover the ugly heater and put blankets down to cover the ugly floor. It would take me probably 30 minutes to set up for a photo shoot depending on how much stuff I had to move. We are also growing a bunch of plants in our window now so they would have to be carefully moved as well and it's a huge pain. Then I would have to lay on the floor or bend funny to get the photos. Most of the time I would have sore neck by the time I was done!

Recently I discovered that the lighting in our bedroom is pretty good. Not as great as the kitchen but decent with adding a bit of help from a lamp. So on sunny days I can now shoot in there if I can't go outside. It's much easier, the dogs are raised up on the bed so I don't have to bend my neck funny and there's not a whole lot of things I need to move! So far the girls are really liking it and it's working out so much better. As you can see from the photo above, Phoenix is pretty comfy!

Do you ever have trouble finding the perfect spot for photos? I'm so picky with my pictures!! LOL

  1. Hope you're feeling better soon! There's been a lot of that going around here, too! I've been using it as an excuse for extra afternoon naps so that I can fend off the germs better and I don't come down with it, too!

  2. Hope you feel better soon! It's a terrible time of year for allergies. Your photos are exquisite! I get an occasional good one, but that's just luck! :)

  4. I am always blown away by your photos. I really don't have any good spots in my house. The only place with good natural light is my kitchen, and there is not much actual wall space for backdrops, it's all appliances and furniture. I need to take more outside, it's just hard to manage keeping an eye out for Ruby triggers (everything) with operating the camera. Boca is trustworthy enough that I could drop the leash and get some nice ones of her - maybe we will make that a goal this weekend.

    1. Thank you so much for saying so!

I completely understand about outdoor photos and Ruby! Zoe, while she is not reactive, she is hyper vigilant about everything and it's hard for me to get her to actually look at the camera. She's too busy worrying about all the smells and whatnot.

  5. My house is horrible for photos. The lighting is not good. Some day I am going to invest in some extra lighting for photos. Our cabin is better because we have skylights (I know its a cabin but the people who built it must have loved light lol). Hope you are feeling better and thanks for joining the hop!

    1. That's kind of how our apartment is. There's only a couple of spots where the lighting is okay. Your cabin sounds awesome! :D

  6. So I rarely pose my guys for photos, on occasions (like a holiday or special product review) so most of my shots are candids. The lighting might be bad (I try and fix them in fotor) the angles are definitely off and sometimes they are crummy photos, but it is what it is.

I'm glad you found a solution to your problem and thank you for joining the blog hop!

  7. Feel better soon!
I guess we just shoot were we are, I don't go through much trouble to set up inside our house. :-)

  8. I can relate (however my photos are nowhere as good as yours), I can relate because I live in an apt/condo complex and our condo is only a 2 bedroom. Good lighting is a HUGE issue. We only get sunshine from 3pm on....and only a few rooms have "good" lighting. I always envy those I see with normal houses, and those with gorgeous sunrooms where they take the most amazing shots!

I would say you do a superb job and I would never have known about your challenges/limitations if you hadn't mentioned them.

  10. That is one problem I have escaped. I gave us photography years ago. Unfortunately that means I have to write 1000 words for every picture I don't take. :)

  11. Hi Y'all!

My Human isn't picky about where she takes her photos...she just shoots what she sees...usually action. I've never had to learn to sit still for her.

My Human just had 2 days of a migraine and her allergies have been so bad she's had to get prescription eye drops from her eye doctor. She felt like clawing her eyes out they itched so badly. She says to tell you she'll say a prayer tonight that you feel better quickly so you can enjoy Friday, the weekend and next week's Doggie Dash.

    Y'all come by,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  12. This is a very cute photo! Our person finds that all her photos start to look the same unless she makes a point of finding different light and different places and different times... The perfect photo is very hard, but the perfect Dog - not so much! You two are perfect, right? Right.

    Licks,
    Cobi

  13. I'm picky too. I love that photo in your bedroom! I do find myself pleasantly surprised when I try new spots in the house. The good light seems to switch rooms with the seasons and time of day. But, I take most of my photos outside!

  14. We've had a tough week too. Rob's been sick and our evening walks haven't been our best.

I take better photos outside too. So much dog hair on everything! And bad lighting.
