The Honest Kitchen "Revel" Review

Hi everyone! I hope you're all having a great Tasty Tuesday! Today I have a review for you on the new Revel whole grain chicken dog food from The Honest Kitchen! I've done a few reviews for THK in the past and I am a huge fan of their foods and treats. The girls always love everything we've gotten from them and I highly recommend checking them out. We received our box of Revel in exchange for an honest review.

About Revel:
Revel is a hearty new recipe from The Honest Kitchen, perfect for hounds on a budget! Revel is one of our tastiest recipes, and is perfect for picky dogs. It’s made with dehydrated wholesome ingredients like free range chicken, organic barley, flaxseeds, carrots and bananas. Revel is a human grade dog food that’s ideal for dogs of all life stages, including puppies, pregnancy and nursing as well as active adult dogs.

The girls are active dogs who do well on either grain or grain-free food so Revel is a great food for them.

Revel before adding water
Ingredients: Free-range chicken, organic barley, potatoes, organic flax, organic oats, green peas, carrots, bananas, parsley, organic kelp, celery, tricalcium phosphate, choline chloride, zinc amino acid chelate, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin E supplement, potassium iodide, potassium chloride, iron amino acid chelate, copper amino acid chelate, thiamine mononitrate.

Does not contain any corn, wheat, soy or GMO ingredients.

The food is really easy to make. The instructions on the box go by the weight of the dog and is measured in cups. Part of the time that I fed this food, I reduced their kibble and just added Revel to the kibble and mixed with warm water. The rest of the time I fed straight Revel mixed with warm water. Either way, the food comes out to be an oatmeal-like consistency. It smells really good, too.

Phoenix tries Revel
Zoe tries Revel

Both of the girls really enjoyed this food and they did really well on it. There was no adjustment period and they didn't have any tummy upsets. They looked forward to their meals when this was added to their kibble. Zoe can be picky at times and she loved this food and had no problems eating it. I love that THK uses high quality human grade ingredients. I would get this food for my dogs again and I would especially use it for when we are traveling. Both of my dogs get really finicky about eating when we travel. The food being a dehydrated powder makes it very travel friendly.

If you dog does okay on a grain diet, I would definitely recommend checking Revel out!

  1. Looks like good stuff. Good idea adding it to their other food. We got some food like this, we have no idea where it came from or why, but we don't really want it as a main meal, so we will try adding it to what we usually eat. Thanks for the idea! Nice review for THK. They are a nice brand.

  2. Glad they enjoyed it! I love THK foods. I just really really really wish they made more grain-free, potato free, "exotic" protein foods. This probably isn't a problem for like 95% of dog owners, lol. Stupid allergies :( I do use their Zeal though when we travel.

  8. We've tried a few samples of Honest Kitchen over the years, but never enough for even one full meal. It would be great to be able to try this food for a little bit, since it takes a little while to see how your dog is going to do on a given food.

    1. I absolutely agree with you. It's really hard to figure out if they will do well on a food from a couple of tiny samples. :)

  11. Great review! Pike and Olivia enjoyed this. I'm a big fan of THK, but I wish they offered some higher protein/fat options. Nola lost a lot of weight on THK. :/
