Racing Through The Leaves!

We are finally getting some Fall weather! I know I've been sort of wishy washy about Fall. We'd get a cooler day and then it would go right back to being sunny and weird. The leaves are actually starting to turn and fall!

Phoenix had been sore in her hip after running around at Thousand Acres two weeks ago. So we did take some time off from going to that park for free running. Any number of things could of caused the soreness, she probably did something dumb out there. I decided to rest her at home and watch her. She was actually fine the next day after being sore but we took some time off anyways. This was the first time we've been there since she was sore and she was very happy to be there!

Zoe was pretty excited about being able to run around, too! She liked playing in the leaves. We did a shorter loop than usual. I'm hoping to slowly go back to doing the 4-5 miles we had been doing.

Happy Fit Dog Friday everyone!

Nature's Variety "Pumpkin & Cranberries" Dog Treats Review

Hi everyone! It's time for our monthly chewy.com review! If you didn't know, chewy.com is an amazing company that ships your favorite pet products right to your door! They have amazing customer service and their shipping is incredibly fast. We received our treats as part of the chewy.com blogger program in exchange for an honest review.

Today we are reviewing the Nature's Variety Prairie All Natural Oven-Baked Biscuits with Pumpkin & Cranberries Dog Treats. These treats are an oven-baked biscuit with wholesome all natural ingredients! Since it's right around Halloween and I love sharing treats with my girls, these Pumpkin biscuits were perfect for us!

The benefits to feeding these include:

  • All natural, oven-baked biscuits
  • Delicious flavor combination of pumpkin and cranberries
  • Made without wheat, corn, soy, artificial preservatives, flavors or colors
  • Perfect bite-sized treats for all dog sizes to enjoy
  • Made in the USA

Ingredients: Oatmeal, barley, tapioca, pumpkin, cranberries, canola oil, turkey meal, montmorillonite clay, ground flaxseed, natural flavor, cinnamon, cloves, mixed tocopherols (preservative), citric acid (preservative), rosemary extract

The girls really enjoyed these biscuits and I really appreciate all the healthy ingredients! They smell absolutely wonderful and they are also a fantastic size. The treats break apart easily and don't crumble too badly.

I would definitely get these again and I would recommend checking Nature's Variety Prairie All Natural Oven-Baked Biscuits with Pumpkin & Cranberries Dog Treats out!

ZoePhee was provided with a package of Nature's Variety treats in exchange for an honest review. We were not monetarily compensated and all opinions are our own. Nature's Variety and Chewy.com are not responsible for the content of this blog post.

Weird Pumpkins!

Do you remember the other day when we were at the Apple Festival? On our great search for Apples we came across some very odd looking pumpkins! Yep, in addition to apples and pears the nursery also had a ton of very odd looking pumpkins!

Neither of the girls were that happy to put their butts on scratchy straw bales, either! Unfortunately, we decided that none of these pumpkins made the cut and we just left with apples and a bag of food grade Diatomaceous Earth.

The Bridge of the Gods

Have you seen the movie "Wild" with Reece Witherspoon? I didn't really like it that much but I've heard the book is a lot better. Part of the story takes place in my neck of the woods, so when my husband decided to take us for a drive the other day, the Bridge of the Gods was on my list of destinations.

Have you ever heard of the Pacific Crest Trail? It's the 2,660 mile trail that runs all the way from the border of Mexico to the border of Canada and the Bridge of the Gods is where all the hikers cross from Oregon to Washington.

I actually didn't know we were going anywhere other than Thousand Acres that day, so I was a bad mom and forget to bring the harnesses for the dogs. Oops!

The bridge itself was having some work done on it when we went so we didn't actually drive across it. It's located in a neat little town called "Cascade Locks" so we parked and wandered around there. According to my research, Cascade Locks is one of the friendliest communities in Oregon. We didn't really run into anyone to test that out but it did look like a nice little town.

We ended up finding a really neat little place called Marine Park that has a small footbridge to one of the islands in the Colombia River! The Island is called "Thunder Island" and it overlooks the Bridge of the Gods. This place was SO awesome! We had a great time walking the dogs around on it!

Zoe was determined to find out if there were any "rodents" on the island. Phoenix wanted to help!

There were a lot of fun "obstacles" for them to check out and Zoe did manage to find a squirrel in the trees directly behind them.

It was SO windy! There were a lot of chances to get silly "wind blown ears" pictures!

We had a great time and we will definitely make this stop more often when we are driving through the Colombia River Gorge area. If you're in town I'd recommend stopping here. It's beautiful!

Major Dog "Tiger" Toy Review

Look at that face! She is SO excited!

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a fabulous day! Today I have an exciting new toy review for you! Phoenix absolutely loves toys, in fact (other than food) toys are pretty much her favorite thing! One of the best ways to make this little dog happy is to give her a new toy. There's a catch, though! Zoe loves to destroy dog toys. While Phoenix is easy on her toys, the first thing Zoe does is try to kill them and get all the stuffing out. So when I pick toys for them, I try to pick tough toys that will last longer than 5 minutes. I was so excited when I was given the opportunity to review a toy from Major Dog!

Major Dog is a toy company that is based out of Sonneberg Germany, the toy capitol of Europe!
The toys were developed through an intense collaborative effort between trainers and dog owners. All of the toys and training articles are designed, tested and TÃœV-certified for safety. TÃœV-certified means that the dog toys have undergone and passed the same rigorous contaminant testing as a child's toy.  Major Dog toys are the world's first to do so. Major Dog is so concerned about safety that they took several years to test their products before offering them for sale. I really appreciate how much effort Major Dog has gone through to make sure they are producing quality products. It's nice to know I'm giving my dogs a safe toy to play with.

Major Dog has a wide variety of toys to choose from and we selected the Tiger toy. The Tiger is a robust toy that was designed for long throws with the loop that's attached to it. Phoenix loves the texture of the plush that's also been affixed to the toy! We've been using this toy for playing tug and fetch and we've been having so much fun!

The Tiger toy does not contain any squeakers, so it's a nice quiet toy. I actually appreciate having some toys around that the dogs still love but don't make obnoxious noises!

We've been playing with this toy both indoors and outdoors and it's survived both of my dogs playing with it. I still make sure to monitor any interactions that Zoe has with the toy but so far she has not been able to kill it. You can really tell that a lot of thought and effort was put into making this toy and it's survived Zoe using her back teeth on it. I'm very happy with the toy!

I am thrilled with this toy, it's a great tough toy that was built to last and I would definitely recommend checking Major Dog out!

Is your dog good with their toys? Or are they destructive like Zoe?

Flying Recall

We are getting a little more Fall weather here in Oregon but I'm loving the last little bit of green in the trees! Pretty soon there won't be any leaves!

Are you getting Fall where you live yet?

Chicken Nuggets

We've always wondered where chicken nuggets come from! Zoe thinks she might have found out where they come from when we were at Pet Expo! Do you see it?

Possibly a live "chicken nugget"

Yep! You guessed it right. Zoe found the parrots!

We did tell her that parrots are not for eating!

Has your dog ever had an encounter with a different species they weren't familiar with?
How did it go?

Happy B&W Sunday everyone! I hope you are all having a fantastic weekend!

Zoe and Phee visit Mt.Tabor!

Hi everyone happy Fit Dog Friday! This week we went on a fun walk at Mt. Tabor! Mt. Tabor is a volcanic cinder cone and they've turned it into a beautiful park! The park features hiking trails, a play ground and a dog park. We didn't use the dog park, but we did have a lovely walk.

Mt. Tabor is a great place to work out because there are a lot of stairs you have to climb to get to the top! When you get to the top, if you can peak between the trees you can see Portland! It's pretty neat!

The girls had so much fun checking this place out. It's not close to our place, so we don't get to go very often but we always have a great time when we make it out there! If you're in the Portland area and you want to go for a nice walk, I'd recommend this park. It's great!

Buster Food Cube Review

Hi everyone! I hope you're all having a fantastic day! Today I have a review for you on two amazing puzzle toys, the BUSTER Food Cube and the BUSTER Soft Food Cube made by Kruuse!

My dogs absolutely love puzzle toys, Zoe is a puzzle toy addict. She thinks they all belong to her! (Which we've been working on!) Puzzle toys are one of my favorite ways to feed my dogs. Mental stimulation is so important and by giving them a puzzle to solve, it works their brain and helps to tire them out so they don't get into other mischief around the house. I love having different puzzle toys, especially around winter time because it's rainy and the girls generally don't like going out in a downpour. Puzzle toys are one of the best ways to beat doggie boredom and it gives them a task to do.

The Buster Cubes are made to be used with kibble or other similar sized treats and I will generally just fill them with the girl's daily meals and let them have them. It can take them anywhere between 15 and 30 minutes to get all the food out.

BUSTER Food Cube

The Original BUSTER Food Cube is made from durable plastic and can definitely stand up to any abuse your dog might put it through. You can easily put treats or kibble inside and the dog has to roll the cube with his or her nose to get the treats out. They come in two sizes and four different colors!

Phoenix tries the Original BUSTER Food Cube
Phoenix is really concentrating hard on this task!

Zoe is in LOVE!

BUSTER Soft Food Cube

The BUSTER Soft Food Cube is also made with durable plastic but it's softer and the edges are more rounded. This one comes in two sizes and two colors. It's definitely a lot quieter than the original and it's a bit easier for the dogs to roll around. I would recommend the Soft version of this toy if your dog is timid and just starting out in puzzle toy use. My dogs had a much easier time getting the food out of it than from the Original. This would make a great starter puzzle toy and then as the dog gets really good at using it you can advance up to the Original Food Cube. The Soft Food Cube has been wonderful for Phoenix who is just learning to love puzzle toys! She's become a BUSTER Cube master and has been having so much fun using these toys! I would say she's actually better at getting the food out of the cubes than Zoe. Which is awesome!

Zoe having fun with the Soft Food Cube
Yum!

Phoenix is the BUSTER Cube master!
Phee is rewarded for her hard work when the cube finally releases some treats!

Check out our short video of Phoenix using the Buster Cubes!

As some of you might know, it can be challenging to keep smart dogs busy doing activities we approve of, instead of getting into things they are not supposed to. Having puzzle toys is just one more tool in my toolbox for keeping my dogs busy, out of trouble and happy. The girls had so much fun playing with these BUSTER cubes! They are working their minds and bodies and it's so much better than just getting fed out of a bowl! As soon as they are done playing with their cubes, they lay down and take a nice long nap! I love using puzzle toys on rainy days or days where I can't get a training session in. They are so useful to have around! I would highly recommend checking them out and getting one for your dog! They also make BUSTER Cat Puzzle Toys, that are very similar to the dog ones, so you can keep your kitty busy too! How neat is that!

Have you ever tried any puzzle toys with your pets? Did they like them?
