DogMaze, Puzzle Toy Feeder Review (Dog & Cat Product!)

If you've been following me for a while, you will know that I feel mental stimulation for our pets is extremely important. I work really hard to provide my dogs and cats with new and exciting toys that enrich their lives. I've always hated just pouring their kibble until a bowl and I believe they have a lot more fun working for their food. Zoos and Aquariums provide this sort of enrichment for the animals under their care as well! So I was really excited when I was given the opportunity to review the DogMaze puzzle toy feeder by Buster! We received our DogMaze bowls in exchange for an honest review.

Phoenix shows the size differences between the two options!

Buster provides two versions of this toy/bowl. DogMaze is for medium to large dogs and DogMaze Mini is for small dogs and you can also use it for cats!

The idea with this toy/bowl is that you fill it with your pet's food or favorite treats and they have to use their nose, tongue and paws to move the treats through the channels and out of the exits. By being able to see and smell the food your pets will be very motivated to continue trying to get them out until the maze is empty. It keeps pets mentally stimulated and it keeps them busy for longer than a regular bowl would. The DogMaze is great for pets who like to scarf and barf as it slows down their eating.

The DogMaze is also dishwasher safe, which is a huge plus! This bowl/toy is made from durable hard plastic. It's a very sturdy toy, that being said, I always recommend that you monitor your dogs while they use these kinds of items and never leave them down when they are not in use or unattended.

Check out our video of all four pets using the two DogMazes!

All of my pets really enjoyed using the DogMaze! It kept the dogs busy for a really long time and they were not able to tip it over. I was also really surprised at how much fun my cats had batting their treats around the channels and scooping them out! These feeders provided all of my pets with a lot of mental enrichment! I think they would be great for most dogs, although the brachy breeds (like pugs, boston terriers, etc) might have a harder time with it.

I would definitely recommend checking the DogMaze out! Buster also offers a variety of other kinds of puzzle toys for both dogs and cats and you can find the other items on their website. Just follow the link!

ZoePhee was provided with the DogMaze and DogMaze Mini in exchange for an honest review. We were not monetarily compensated and all opinions are my own. Buster is not responsible for the content of this blog post.

  2. These interactive feeders are so beneficial if you have a speed eater. Bailie used them a lot when she was young, but now that she has slowed down her speed, she doesn't use one all the time. Bert gets all his meals in interactive feeders or he gulps and then gets sick. I like yours in pink.

  3. What a clever way to make them work for their food. Very clever.

Have a woof woof day you two. My best to your wonderful mom. ☺

  4. I have one of this style of bowl (though a different brand) that I use to feed Theordore Trex (my cat). He will otherwise eat all his food then go push Martha away from hers and steal it. Using one of these keeps him occupied fishing out his kibbles one by one. I also have a bigger one to use for the dog, but I normally use her Kong Wobbler when I feed kibble so I haven't used it much.

  6. I may just have to get that little one for Nola! She's terrible about gulping so she eats almost exclusively from food puzzles or training (unless it's raw or canned food, of coursed). This looks perfect for her. Love that the kitties used it, too!

  8. Those are very cool lookin'! I don't eats out of bowls of any kind. I knows, it's weird, butts I just end up flipping the bowl over..no matter what kind it is. It drove Ma crazy for the longest time, butts I got her trained now to puts my kibbes on a mat. Luckily, I don't eat too fast, so it hasn't been a problem. When I do she puts out my Wobble Kong...I loves that thingie! hehehehe

  10. Love the video! I might have to check this out for my boys. I'm always on the lookout for new puzzle type toys for them.

  11. This is clever enough that I might buy several. Cats have the natural instinct to chase and hunt their food, and giving them this kind of stimulation when they eat is FANTASTIC.

Indulging this instinct to hunt and eat through play reduce cat vs cat aggression, and I wonder if this bowl would be beneficial in multiple cat households that are experiencing behavioral issues.

    1. That's so awesome! If you get some, please let me know how your babies like them! :D

I bet it would be helpful for multi cat houses! My cats sure do seem a lot calmer when they've gotten mental stimulation.

  12. The smaller one would be great for my cat. He's a big glutton, so I love using food dispensers and toys to keep him entertained (and make him eat slower).

  13. Oh Wow! This puzzle looks like so much fun! I think the Goldens would love it and may even let our kitty give it a try! ;)

  14. These little puzzle feeders look so pawesome - our short little snouts don't fit in this one, but we do love it! We got one for our cousin dog, his nose is a bit longer and he loved it!

  15. These are great for pets who try to eat too fast! Gracie is a slow eater, but if our new puppy eats fast we will be looking into getting one for him!

  16. I want to get one for Layla to keep her busy game wise as I have no problems with food as she free feeds herself and is not over weight

  19. I really need to check this out. Bentley has just about gotten too fast eating with his slow-feeder bowl so a new challenge is in order.

  20. I should check that out. My "violently excitable" Labs just might figure out a way to flip it though. What do you think? That's what they always do with toys like this one.

    1. It has rubber feet on the bottom and it seems really stable! I'm not sure but if they were really determined they might be able to flip it. The girls were not able to flip it over but I didn't test them with anything super high value, just kibble.

  22. Those are really cool bowls! I may have to look into getting the mini bowl for Lita so she has to work a bit for her kibbles.

  23. Greedy Kilo the Pug is a food-loving gobbler so I love puzzles. I just wonder if he could reach in easily with his flat puggy face. He tends to cheat and tip the whole thing over if he can't.

  24. I use the Catit food tower to slow down one of our cats from eating too fast. This also looks like a good thing for that. I like that it's dishwasher safe, too! Great video and pictures.

  25. This is a great way to slow down a fast eater. We use a slow feeder dish for our doodles. These are so cute and colorful though.

  26. My dogs don't gobble their food so I've never used a feeder like this. If they did this would be a good one to try. I really like the idea of using it as a game for treats, great idea!
