This photo was from our "blog party" photo shoot. I didn't make them wear hats while they were scared. Zoe is doing her "cover the nose" pose which sort of makes her look pitiful which was pretty much how our day went yesterday with the fireworks. So the photo works well for this post.
Yesterday was the scariest day of the year for pets everywhere and my girls were no exception. We weren't able to go outside very much throughout the day because everyone was lighting fireworks off at random. Around 7:30pm I gave both dogs benadryl, melatonin and valerian root. Zoe wore her thunder shirt and Phoenix wore the anxiety wrap that we reviewed a while ago. By 10pm the fireworks got really bad and neither dog was very happy but we did a bunch of CC and they did okay. Zoe mostly wanted to be left alone but Phoenix wanted to cuddle. It was interesting because this is the first time Phoenix has ever been upset about the bangs and I was not expecting that. Usually she doesn't care. I really hope everyone used up all of their fireworks and that the bangs will stop. Watching my dogs freak out is not very fun for me. :( I think next year I'm going to get some heavier duty drugs from the vet.
Thank you all so much for stopping by yesterday and wishing us a happy blogiversary! I really appreciate everyone's kind words! <3
Well done guys. Brave girlies.

The boomers will continue around here for a while. It makes Mom mad because it keeps her from sleeping! You both look very cute in your hats.
ReplyDeleteYeah, same here! They continued until around 2am! I tried to take the girls potty at 1:30am and Zoe would barely walk. I had to make her. It was so sad. :(
DeleteLast night was the 4th night of fireworks for us since Tuesday. Hailey was not happy. We had friends over so were outside for a fire. Hailey was inside, watching us from the window. This was before the worst of them which were after 10, we came in by then. For the first few random ones my girl was like your girl and where was Phod. Sound asleep on the grass beside my chair. He didn't even look up!
ReplyDeleteHope tonight is quiet.
Poor Hailey! I'm so sorry! Fireworks suck. :( That's awesome Phod was okay, though!
DeleteCongratulations on your blogiversary and for surviving America's birthday. Dogs will never understand why people have to make booms to show approval for something.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah, we are not fans of this time of year. :(
DeleteWe had the same issues here. Little Bit was scared for hours. I was finally quiet around 1am. It was a long, long night for our baby. I too hope all the fireworks are used up.
ReplyDeleteHave a woof woof day you two. My best to your mom. ☺
Awe poor Little Bit! We're so sorry it was scary! We had a long night, too! :(
DeleteYes it was crazy! All these nutty people who like to make big booms. We do not understand it at all and it scares so many of our furends!
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Yeah we don't get it, either! They wouldn't stop until well after 2am! :(
DeleteI feel so bad for your babies (love the photo!) Dakota went insane last night. Poor guy. Our fireworks started at around 9 and went pretty much til after midnight. It was crazy. Our cat isn't bothered in the least but Dakota would NOT stop barking. None of the neighbors in our building were home so no one was bothered and if they were, I wouldn't care. They need to stop allowing people to set them off in their backyards. These weren't public displays.
ReplyDeleteOh poor Dakota! :( Fireworks suck!
DeleteGlad it's all over (hopefully) for the year. Glad you girls were so brave!
ReplyDeleteI really hope it's over. Zoe won't would barely walk last night or this morning outside and I had to beg her to eat. :(
DeleteWell done brave girls. Fireworks are no fun for us dogs
ReplyDeleteMuffin x
Poor pups- glad you all survived safe and sound. Luckily our house walls are thick and we only had fireworks at sunset. Most of them were not too close so Kilo snoozed through. XS
ReplyDeleteThat's good that Kilo was okay! <3
DeleteI tried taking Mr. N out at 1:30 too and they were still lighting them off. He seems to have recovered today though. Hope the girls are doing OK.
ReplyDeleteYep, same here. Zoe would barely walk last night or this morning. I had to sort of drag/make her walk and then she dragged me back to our apartment as soon as she was done pottying, also she refused to eat her breakfast and I had to beg her to eat it and doctor it up with some water and treats. I hate this time of year! :(
DeleteFourth of July is always met with dread around here. Bentley HATES the fireworks. Last night we used the Anxiety Wrap along with his PetSmartLove 4 in 1 Harness. He actually slept while our neighbors shot fireworks off in front of our house. It was nothing short of a miracle. I kept taking pictures of him asleep because I just couldn't believe it. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that he did okay!
DeleteAw, I'm sorry the girls were scared. :-( We don't have anyone here scared of them so that's good. We start proofing for loud noises when they are little. Plus we hear a lot of gunshots during hunting season when we hike. We feel so bad for our friends who have such a rough time with the fireworks. :-(
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome your pups were okay! I wish I had the chance to desensitize mine when they were young. :(
DeletePoor things! It doesn't sound like a very fun night at all :( I've never experienced something like that - I didn't realise how bad the fireworks are over there! Your girls did very well and hopefully next year goes smoother for you all!
ReplyDeletePoor girls! That's so sad. :( Pike had a little bit of pacing and panting, but otherwise it was okay here.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blogversary :-) The golf course across from our home had a massive fireworks It lasted till 1pm. Sugar was so exhausted so she slept most of the day. Hope you guys had a restful Sunday. Golden Woofs
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you survived it! It was so bad here, not to mention there are still boomers going off on Sunday night. Happy belated Blogversary! Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteUgg I am glad it is over (hopefully). I am sorry Zoe and Phoenix had such a tough time. It was bad around here too. Except for the giant house shaking bangs the dogs were OK. Not totally at ease but not freaking out at least.
