Dog Miracle Puzzle Toy Review

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a fantastic day! This is a re-write of the blog post that Blogger ate. Fun times! Right!?! :D Today I have a review for you on the Dog Miracle Puzzle by Nina Ottosson and distributed by The Company of Animals. I'm not being monetarily compensated to tell you about this toy, however we did receive the toy in exchange for an honest review.

We've been having some strange weather here in Oregon, from freezing wind and rain, to freezing sunshine days and everything in between. We've had days where it didn't get warmer than 35F and the wind was insane to go with it. It even snowed! I don't remember the weather being this bad the last time I lived here but it does keep it interesting! When the weather is as cold as it's been the girls don't really enjoy going out in it and I don't really blame them. They are okay if it's sunny and freezing but add some moisture to that and they look at me like I've lost my mind and they want to go right back inside. Even when they are wearing their coats. It's pouring down as I type this.

On those days where we are stuck inside, I like to have a variety of things for them to do. One of my favorite ways to keep them busy is by utilizing puzzle toys and I was recently given the opportunity to try the Dog Miracle Puzzle toy. I was very excited when I got this package because the girls had been getting a bit bored with their other puzzle toys and it looks really fun.

The Company of Animals was started by Dr. Roger Mugford who happens to be a world renowned animal psychologist. They have their own facility in England where they specialize in all levels of dog training, even behavioral consultations. They also develop and distribute products world wide, they test all of the products right there in their facility. The primary goal for TCOA is to develop products that help owners and their pets find an enriched life and to improve animal welfare.

Nina Ottosson began making dog puzzles for her dogs after she had children and felt guilty for not always having enough time in the day to exercise her dogs. Her toys are designed to be durable and stimulating for the dog's brain while reinforcing his or her relationship with their human. She has toys available for dogs, cats and she even has toys that can even be used for other animals like horses!

The Dog Miracle Puzzle is a mentally challenging puzzle toy that can be varied endlessly by how you place the bricks. You can decide how easy or hard it will be. Hide treats in all the recesses in both the bottom and the upper side of all the bricks in the puzzle, stack the bricks on top of each other and lock them in different directions. Let the dog look for the treats by trying to move, lift, or push aside the bricks with his/her paw or nose. You can even purchase additional blocks! Which in my opinion is a great option.

WARNING! This toy has a lot of smaller parts. If your dog is prone to eating things he/she shouldn't, this isn't the toy for you! You need to 100% monitor the dog with this toy! Never leave a dog unattended with a toy like this!

I think this toy would be great for dogs that are recovering from surgery or an illness, or a shy dog to build up their confidence. You can set it up so that it's easy for them to get through or if you have a really clever dog, like Zoe, you can set it up so that's it's hard. I generally use puzzle toys like this at meal time so that my dogs have to work for their food and both girls are different. Zoe needs more of a challenge and Phoenix needs it to be a bit easier or she will shut down. I like that this toy has that option and can be easily used with both dogs. I also had a lot of fun setting it up and hiding the food in it. All of the parts are dishwasher safe, which is also a huge plus!

I think this toy would make an awesome doggie gift, too. I would highly recommend checking it out!

  1. Zoe and Phoenix are ADORABLE working that toy. Both my dogs would go BANANAS over Ottson toys. I can see both of them digging at the bricks and flipping the entire puzzle over before ever picking up a brick individually and handing it to me (lol ZOE! SO FUNNY.)

  2. This sounds like a toy Nola might actually be able to work instead of just breezing through!

  3. Looks like a great toy, I loved the video...lol. Zoe was like get these hunks of plastic out of my way. Phoenix did great once she got going. I would worry about the small pieces for my monsters and I just know Thunder would flip it over after about 10 seconds. He can usually figure out toys and puzzles that quickly.
